VACANCY FOR THE POST OF DIRECTOR
The Institute: The National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM) is a premier institute for research in applied and basic rock mechanics, set up under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India in the year 1988. The Institute provides services for the mining, hydro and nuclear-power sectors and infrastructure industries etc., related to the underground space engineering and tunneling industry. The important areas of work at NIRM are Engineering Geology, Engineering Geophysics, Engineering Seismology, In-situ Rock Mass Testing, Rock Fracture Mechanics, Numerical Modeling, Rock Blasting, Excavation Engineering, Mine Design, Tunnel Engineering and Geo-technical Instrumentation & Monitoring. Presently it has a total manpower of 60, and has offices at Bengaluru (Head Office) and at Kolar Gold Fields (RO).
The Job Profile: The Director is the Chief Executive Officer. He shall be responsible for the overall functioning of the Institute and planning for its future course of action fulfilling the objectives of the Institute. He is expected to take the Institute on a growth path to make it the center of excellence and self reliant financially.
The Candidate: The candidate should be a dynamic and competent scientist/ engineer/ technologist with outstanding contributions in the area of rock mechanics. The requirements for the post are as follows:
|Essential Qualification||1st Class B.E./B.Tech. or 1st Class M.Tech/M.E. in Mining/Civil Engineering(or) 1st Class Post Graduate in Earth Sciences.|
|Desirable||Ph.D in Mining/Civil/Earth Sciences related to rock mechanics/geotechnical engineering.|
|Experience||20 years or more experience in research/teaching/industry, with outstanding contribution in rock mechanics/geotechnical/mining/civil engineering projects.|
|Scale of Pay||PB—4 (₹ 37,400-67,000); Grade Pay ₹ 10,000 (as per 6th CPC)|
|Age||Less than 55 years (as on 01 -08-2017)|
Terms of appointment: The offer of appointment shall be on contract for a period of 6 (six) years from the date of assumption of charge, or till the age of superannuation (Sixty years of Age), whichever is earlier. The incumbent will be on probation for a period of one year.
Criteria for re-appointment: The contract can be renewed for another 5 (Five) years or till attaining the age of 60 years, whichever is earlier, on approval from the Governing Body on the basis of : (1) Annual appraisal reports, (2) Evaluation record of each year, (3) Record of publications, reports, patents, etc., (4) Contribution made for development of the Institute, (5) Recognition received from outside agencies in the form of S&T and sponsored research projects, awards, etc., (6) Character and conduct of the incumbent.
Selection Procedure: Selection of the Director will be done by the Search-cum-Selection Committee which may also consider contact/ nominated candidates for the post. Candidates called for the interview will be reimbursed return fare by the shortest route limited to 2nd AC train fare.
The Package: The perquisites include accommodation, car with driver and consultancy as applicable.

Duly filled in application form with copies of proof of age, qualification, experience etc, along with a fee of 200/- by DD drawn in favor of NIRM (payable at State Bank of India, Kumaraswamy Layout Branch, Bengaluru or Corporation Bank, Andersonpet Branch, KGF) may be forwarded to the Controller of Administration, NIRM, at the Institute’s Head office address. Acopy of the same may also be sent to the Economic Advisor, Ministry of Mines (Govt. of India), 3rd Floor, D-Wing, Shastri Bhavan, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Road, New Delhi-110 001. Applications from persons employed in Central / State Government / PSUsI Universities / Autonomous Bodies should be forwarded through proper channel. Candidates sending advance application are required to produce No Objection Certificate at the time of Interview. The candidates intending to join on deputation will be governed by rules of the GOI on the subject. Candidates applied earlier are exempted from application fee.
Last Date: The last date for receipt of applications is 23rd October 2017. Short-listed candidates may have to attend an interactive process at New Delhi, on the date and at the venue which will be intimated to them.
